?Pants for skating
Most of the time when people skate they wear pants because they help protect your legs from bruises when they board pops up and hits them, I’m not saying you can’t skate in shorts im just saying pants are more preferred. Also when your skating in the sun during the day and you fall on the hot pavement, your legs wont burn up on the asphalt. When you skate how your pants fit is one the most important things because you want to be comfortable.
Pants are the same as most things in life, you get what you pay for. With that being said let me tell you what you should look for. If your pants cover your entire shoe, weigh 20 pounds and can be bought at hot topic, they probably aren’t the best pants for skating. If your pants are so tight that when ever you walk you can feel the skin getting rubbed of your legs, those probably aren’t the right pants for skating. You want pants that are loose but not to loose that they will be annoying. If they are too short then when your legs are bent you will be able to see your ankles and those probably hurt the most when they get hit with the board. You want them to be about 3” longer than where they would be if you were wearing them and they were even with your shoe. You also want them to be durable. If you buy really thin pants they will be comfortable but you’ll rip them the first time you fall. Try to stick to denim and cords. Some good brands are levi’s, faded glory, and krew. Krew pants are much more expensive but fit better and will last longer.

?Music and Skating
Music plays a big part in skating. Whether your listening to an iPod when you’re skating by yourself or the music that’s played while you’re watching a skate video. Either way without music skating is only half of what it is. Because just like music, skating is somewhat of an art and when the two are together skating becomes much more fun and enjoyable. However, most peoples moods become affected when they listen to certain types of music, therefore there are some genres that should be avoided.
When you skate you should be happy, if your not then you’re just skating because you think its cool and no one should skate because of that and if your happy the music your listening to should make you happy or at least not mad. Most people, when they skate, listen to reggae, alt. rock, punk, rap, and rock. Because all of these genres have some reflection on being happy OR are fast paced and are almost like adrenaline to get you to land your next trick. If your listening to heavy metal you are most likely to get mad and throw your board and eventually break it, probably not the best choice of music. Either way listen to the music that inspires you to have fun when you skate.

?How to Ollie
1) Push at a comfortable speed. The faster you go the better your pop will be.
2) Put your back foot on the center of the tail and the place you front foot about 2” to 3” away from the front bolts closest to the back bolts.
3) Bend down so that you can jump as you pop the board.
4) Pop you back foot, jump, and slide your front foot up the board
5) Level out the board with your front foot remembering to bring your back foot up as well and that your are jumping forward.
6) Land smoothly and evenly. It looks cleaner if you land bolts and it will provide less damage for the board.
7) Bend your knees to get that smooth look
Roll away stoked.
How to Kickflip
1) Start with your back foot on the tail and your front foot a little to the left of an ollie position an tilted slightly.
2) Pop your board after you bend your knees
3) Flick your front foot down and out at the same time making the board flip.
4) Bring your legs up, watch the board and wait for it to spin to grip side up.
5) Position your feet over the bolts
6) Land bolts or as close to bolts as possible
7) Bend your knees slightly
Roll away and later, go show your friends

?How to Film
How you film the skating is half of what makes the video look good. If you have a bad filmer you have a bad film, do you see what I’m getting at here? There are some ways to fix things like shaky cameras and poor lighting but first I want to explain equipment. Depending on whether you’re taking video or pictures your cost is going to vary. Obviously video costs more but photos come in handy as well especially if you don’t land the trick but it looks sick in the middle. If you are going to film you need a nice camera, you get what you pay for, and some good lighting, pretty straight forward. If you are going to take photos however, you’re going to need a camera, also you get what you pay for, and several flashes that you can program to go off simultaneously.
Now if you’re taking pictures you’re going to want to make sure the flashes are set up properly and get in a good spot that has a nice frame and then sit on your butt and whatch people skate. Pretty easy. If you’re filming, especially if you’re filming a line it takes more effort. You are going to want a board with loose trucks an incredibly soft wheel to push the filmer on so that they get a nice steady shot that follows the skater closely. This is how every skate filmer does it. Just make sure that if the last trick in the line is down a ten your person pushing doesn’t shove the filmer and $10,000 camera over the stair as well. You also want to keep the camera close to the ground and use a fish eye. It makes the shot look sick! So go out, find some friends and go make a skate video.

?Emerica Review
Now $30 for a skate video is not in a lot of skaters price range but trust me its defiantly worth it. Heath kirchart has the opening slide with a big slam on a 50-50 on a rail. Then does some flip in to flip out thing. Sort of weird but it looked sick. Next is Brian Herman, no one really likes him in general but his part was still insane. Ed Templeton was next and is getting old and his bag of tricks is getting smaller or at least isn’t getting bigger, he is into art though so that makes up for it… right? Next was Austin Stephens he pretty much killed every rail and ledge the team came across. Next is Eric Ellington, apart from looking like a girl he killed the rails with bigspin back tails.
Tosh was skating a little sketchy but people said that his ankle was messed up but I wont judge. However, when he lands clean, its clean. Chris Sean should get the underdog award, sickness all the way through. Spanky has a great part the whole time as well, most of his lines are long and very smooth. Reynolds defiantly deserved to be last. The only guy that can make Duffels pants look good with a leather jacket * laughs * amazing frontside flips the entire time. So if you like good music and even better skating go check out this video. Trust me you wont be disappointed.

?Boards for Vert and Street
There is a big difference in board set up when you skating vert compared to street. Either way you are going to want to get a set up that will be durable and keep its shape and pop for a long time. With both set ups you are going to want to have nice, smooth rolling bearings like black panthers and bones swiss. You are also going to want to have strong long lasting hardware. Other than that the set ups will be very different.
Lets start with board width. Most of the time when people skate street they will skate boards anywhere from 7.5” to 8” at the most. Vert skaters will typically have a board sized from 8” to 9.5”. The trucks you have on your board will always depend on the width of the board itself. Most of the time you want the trucks to match the board width or be a little bit narrower, also, vert skaters will put riser pads between the trucks and board so there is a smaller chance of wheel bite. Street skaters generally don’t use riser pads because the lower the board is to the ground the easier it is to do technical flip tricks. Vert skaters will always have larger wheels than street skaters. Normally a vert skaters wheel ranges from 55mm to 68mm. while a street skaters wheel will range from 49mm to 54mm. the reason the street skaters wheel is smaller is for the same reason they don’t use riser pads, the closer to the ground the faster the board will flip and the smaller wheel means less weight.

?Board Brands Best Boards
Almost everyone that has started skating in the last 2 years has had one. The pink or purple Bam pro model, black and pink Bam trucks and Pink Bam wheels. Kids are buying one of the worst set ups if this is what they’re buying. Overall Elements boards are horrible, they warp and break extremely easily. I don’t know about the heliums though because I don’t trust Element enough to buy a $60 board plus grip. You want to start off with a blank, a shop board, or a board that you know will last long if you are sure your going to stay into skating.
You are going to want to start off with a mini or a micro if you are 3 to 7 years old. After that you can pretty much get any board in a skate shop because they are all about the same length. You defiantly want to make sure you are getting a board that’s the right width though. I would defiantly recommend a 7.5” board for anyone that is starting to skate because they are lighter and easier to flip. Some good boards are Krookeds, reals, anti-heros, bakers, enjois, and girls. Any of these would make a great board for a first time skater.
